Frequently Asked Questions

Drupal is an open-source content management system (CMS). A CMS allows you to edit your website without any programming experience. Basically, if you can edit a document or write an email, you can manage your website yourself and save money in the long run.

A couple of things come to mind.

First, Drupal is extremely flexible. This is due to Drupal being designed more as a framework than a specialized content management system. Out of the box, Drupal seems like it doesn't really do much at all. However, this is by design so that your website can be configured with only the features that you need without the extra bloat. Check out some diverse high-profile websites that run on Drupal.

Second, Drupal is extremely scalable. This is both in the sense of being able to handle unforeseen loads of traffic and being able to be expanded later. Because of Drupal's modularity, you can easily add features to your website down the road with minimal re-development effort. This can be a lifesaver if you're on a tight budget as it makes it much easier to develop your website in phases as you can afford them.

It depends on the scope of your project.

Currently, simple brochure-type websites can be quoted with a timeline of 1-2 weeks. More complex websites are generally quoted with a timeline of 4-6 weeks. However, much of this depends on the complexity of your website, what features can be implemented using modules that already exist, and the amount of custom work that needs to be done from scratch.

Prompt communication is also a key factor.

My business model and pricing is based on providing a certain level of quality to you. I charge by the project and quote my prices based on the value that my work brings to your website.

I admit that I am not the developer with the lowest price. I do not aim to be the developer with the lowest price. I aim to provide a service that you will be satisfied with and will ultimately result in a long-term relationship.

No. As a one-man operation, providing hosting services brings more headaches than it's worth.

However, I can recommend hosting solutions that fit your project's needs. These suggestions will be hosts that I have experience with.

If necessary, I can assist you in setting up your hosting account.

For the first year after I build a website for you, I commit to applying all of the security updates specific to your website. However, the documentation that comes with your website will show you how to do this.

After one year, I charge a retainer of $30 per month or $300 per year if you would still like me to continue testing and applying these updates for you.

Because Drupal is a CMS and therefore the amount of pages you can have is essentially unlimited, I don't charge by the page per se. However, the time that it will take to add your website's content is figured into the project price.
